AAU Athlete Protection & Abuse Prevention Policy

2) There is a reporting form. It is on pages 40-43 of the policy. 

3) These violations are sent to the AAU National Office. They are not sent to AAU governance in the state of Arkansas.

Page 4 of the Policy states:
"This policy, now known as the AAU Athlete Protection and Abuse Prevention Policy, identifies types of prohibited conduct including child abuse, sexual abuse, emotional misconduct, physical misconduct, bullying, harassment, hazing and additional misconduct. All forms of misconduct are intolerable and in direct conflict with the AAU Athlete Protection and Abuse Prevention Policy."

Page 8 of the Policy state:
Overview  "In the event that any AAU member (coach, event organizer, volunteer, and staff) observes inappropriate behaviors, suspected physical or sexual abuse, or sexual misconduct, it is the personal responsibility of each person to immediately report (same day) his or her observations to local law enforcement and the AAU National Office.

The AAU is committed to creating a safe and positive environment for athletes’ physical, emotional and social development and to ensuring that it promotes an environment free of misconduct."

"AAU members (coaches, event organizers, volunteers, and staff) should not attempt to evaluate the credibility or validity."

J. "not use drugs or alcohol in the presence of minors or be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while performing their coaching duties."

h. "not use drugs or alcohol in the presence of minors or be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while performing their chaperone duties"

* In other words, if a coach is using alcohol in the presence of minors while performing coaching duties and, we have a duty to report it. 

Additional Information
There are sections about Team Travel, Chaperone Responsibilities and that they also need AAU #'s, examples of types of abuse, and more. 

MANDATORY REPORTING: Per the Protecting Youth Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Act of 2017, all adult members interacting with youth athletes are mandatory reporters.  Any suspected child and sexual abuse must be reported within 24 hours to the appropriate law enforcement agency.

Note - In Arkansas effective August 1, 2023, reports with an Anonymous Reporter will no longer be accepted.
